In the summer of 1944, Jaakko Tulivaara (Timo Torikka), a long-range patrol soldier, returns to his family and girlfriend Anna (Kaija Kangas) for a nervous vacation in his home village in Kainuu, located near the Soviet border and the war zone, which is protected from partisans by a military unit led by Sergeant Tolvanen (Antti Litja). Jaakko's former childhood friend Janne (Raimo Grönberg) is also around, but on what business?
