He was sentenced to four years, and during that time he had to suffer the sadistic torture of a brutal head guard. However, Hayes stubbornly decided to wait for his release. But with only a few days left to serve his sentence, the Supreme Court decides to make a warning example of him to the rest of the world and extends his sentence to 30 years.
Eventually, he is transferred to the prison's animalistic mental hospital. Only a visit from his girlfriend gives him the strength to try his last chance to escape ... jumping on the midnight express train.
