THE WIND RISE tells the story of Jiro's life and the historical turning points associated with it - the great Kanto earthquake of 1923, the depression of the 1930s, the tuberculosis epidemic and Japan's plunge into war. Jiro meets and falls in love with Nahoko, forms a long friendship with his colleague Honjo, and in the process innovates the aviation industry straight into the future.
