Johan's son Henrik and his daughter Karin also live on the farm. Henrik teaches his daughter to play the cello and has already planned her future. The relationship between the men is quite tense, but both care about young Karin. They all miss Anna - Johan's beloved wife, who died two years earlier - who is still present among them in many ways. Marianne realizes that not everything is right, and she gradually finds herself in the middle of a complicated and grueling power struggle.
