Mika Kaurismäki himself moved to Brazil in 1988 - to Rio de Janeiro, where he still lives. His first film about Brazil, the large-scale production Amazon, is perhaps the director's most political film, not afraid to take a stand on pressing environmental issues. The film was awarded the Maaima Nature Foundation - WWF award for good reason.
