The tanuki in the story live in the lush forests of the Tama Hills on the outskirts of Tokyo. Greater Tokyo's megalomaniacal construction project threatens to bury the lush idyll under asphalt and concrete. The lazy tanuki dig out their old shapeshifting skills from their fur and start a fierce fight for their home forests. The task is complicated by the fact that the tanuki are very discordant, and occasionally forget to have a snack or play a prank in the middle of an important task.
