Innocent country boy Claude Bukowski (John Savage, A Line Drawn on Water) arrives in New York to enlist in the army, but ends up in the middle of a hippie ‘event’ in Central Park and falls head over heels in love with the beautiful Sheila (Beverly D’Angelo, American History X).
The hippie pacifist leader, Berger (Treat Williams, Mulholland Falls), convinces Claude to attend a high-class party just to confess his love to Sheila. This begins an adventure that takes Claude through prison and the Central Park lake, and eventually into the army.
But Berger's last-ditch attempt to rescue Claude from Vietnam leads to a bizarre twist of fate... with shocking consequences.
