Clarence is a young man who spends most of his time at the cinema and dreams of the life of a movie star. Alabama, on the other hand, is a prostitute who has just decided to quit working for her former boss, Drexel (Gary Oldman). When Clarence rescues Alabama from a difficult situation, they decide to escape together.
The couple travels to California, pursued by assassins, drug dealers and corrupt police officers. They find themselves drawn into a dangerous criminal world when they try to sell a large quantity of drugs they found on the property of Alabama's former boss.
Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, including Clarence's comical father Clifford (Dennis Hopper), professional hitman Virgil (James Gandolfini), and film producer Lee Donowitz (Saul Rubinek). Each encounter brings them closer to the final scene and the moment of revenge.
