When Rita Hayworth was cast opposite Fred Astaire in this comic musical THE WEDDING DANCE, the press speculated that they might not be a good match. Then Columbia Pictures CEO Harry Cohen intervened and stood by his choice - fortunately. When Hayworth proved to be an excellent dancer, and she became one of Astaire's best partners, all doubts were silenced. She literally became Columbia's hottest property in the 1940s, and LIFE magazine dubbed her Hollywood's "Goddess of Love." Her film credits include Oscar® nominations and the hit song "Since I Kissed My Baby Goodbye" by Cole Porter.
