Peter Parker is a bullied high school nerd who dreams of his neighbor's beautiful Mary Jane. The girl just doesn't seem to notice the bespectacled rascal. While Peter is on a class trip to a scientific research institute, he is bitten by a genetically engineered spider that spins webs on the run. Peter soon recognizes strange powers in himself and his body undergoes a drastic change. Peter discovers that he has gained the relative strength, speed and agility of a spider. The glasses remain on the bedside table and the school's tough guys are warned. Peter decides to cash in on his newfound powers and takes a job as a show wrestler. However, the reward is not as promised. Peter is offered the opportunity to prevent a brazen robbery, but the bewildered young man makes no move to stop the villainy. A villain who has escaped from a twist of fate hijacks Peter's Uncle Ben's car and kills Ben in the process. When the horrifying truth finally dawns on Peter, he vows to dedicate his life to fighting the forces of evil. The first villain appears almost immediately, when millionaire inventor Norman Osborn's scientific experiment drives him to the brink of madness.
