Lynch throws elements of fairy tales, soap operas, Elvis and Marilyn myths, melodrama, road movies, and rock rebellion into his alchemist's cauldron. The concoction creates a hysterically overexcited study of the evil, cruel and dirty world hidden behind familiar quotes and meanings - where, in the end, good triumphs over evil, love over hate, as always in fairy tales.

Ben (Nicolas Gage) is an alcoholic screenwriter who accelerates the downward spiral of his life with heavy drinking. After losing his family and his job, he decides to put an end to his booze-fueled life and travel to Las Vegas, a city where the bars are always open. In the casino city, Ben meets a young prostitute, Sera (Elisabeth Shue). Having lost their hope, Ben and Sera have long since stopped dreaming of a better life, but in the shadow of death, they experience their small moment of love - just as they are.
