The main character, Theo Faron (played by Clive Owen), is a former activist and pessimistic bureaucrat living in a dark and hopeless world. Suddenly, his life changes when he meets his old love, Julian (played by Julianne Moore), who is part of a secret resistance movement called the Children of Men.
Julian asks Theo to help them transport a young female refugee, Miriam (played by Pam Ferris), to a safe haven. Miriam is pregnant and they believe she can offer hope to humanity. Theo agrees to assist in the mission and they set off on a dangerous journey to safety.
On their journey, Theo and Miriam encounter violence, chaos and political conflicts. They must survive in the struggle between the resistance and the forces of the state. At the same time, they must confront their own past and find meaning for their lives in this contradictory world of despair and hope.
"Sons of Man" deals with current themes, such as refugeeism, totalitarianism and the importance of hope in difficult times. The film offers a concise and visually impressive depiction of a world where hope is a rare and fragile resource.
