After his wife's death, John becomes obsessed with the sketches Mary made in the hospital, depicting a dark, winged figure. A couple of years later, on a reporting trip, John inexplicably drives hundreds of miles in a few hours and ends up in the small town of Point Pleasant.
To top it all off, his car breaks down strangely in the middle of the night. When the man seeks help at the nearest house, the owner furiously claims that John has been knocking on the door for the previous couple of nights.
Police officer Connie Parker is called to the scene, and she reports on sightings in the area: a moth-like red-eyed creature has appeared to several residents...
