A 14th-century crusader returns with his companion to his homeland, which has meanwhile fallen into the grip of the Black Death. Joining the mission are a priest, a grieving knight, an itinerant preacher, and a rebellious young man who dreams of becoming a knight. The journey is long and arduous, and when the group finally arrives at the monastery, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knights' promise to treat the girl properly, and forces them to fight against a dark and destructive force.
