The story begins when Holmes (played by Robert Downey Jr.) and Watson (played by Jude Law) track down and arrest a murderous knight, Blackwood (played by Mark Strong). Blackwood is accused of occult rituals and supernatural abilities. However, Blackwood soon rises from his grave and continues his criminal activities, which puts Holmes and Watson on the trail of a new mystery.
Holmes and Watson find themselves deeper into a conspiracy that threatens the safety of all of London. Their paths cross with the enigmatic beauty Irene Adler (played by Rachel McAdams) and the mysterious Professor Moriarty (played by Jared Harris). Holmes uses his intelligence, observation and fighting skills to uncover the true nature of events and stop the criminals.
