The story begins when the tempting bounty from a cowboy who injured the face of young prostitute Delilah Fitzgerald lures Munny back into bounty hunting. Munny goes on a mission with his friend Ned Logan (Morgan Freeman), and is joined by the young and inexperienced Schofield Kid (Jaimz Woolvett).
Along the way, they encounter violence, corrupt authorities, and a deeply rooted cycle of revenge in the community. Munny must battle his inner demons and confront the actions of his past as they approach a final confrontation with a criminal gang.
"Merciless" is known for its realistic approach to Westerns and its critical examination of the effects of violence and morality. The film also deals with themes of justice and forgiveness. "Merciless" received widespread critical acclaim and was awarded four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Clint Eastwood's performance in the role is considered one of the most significant of his career.
