Lieutenant Colonel Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never been in combat, but is nevertheless brutally sent on a life-threatening mission. Cage is soon killed, but finds himself in a kind of inexplicable time loop that forces him to relive that merciless battle and death over and over... and over again.
Battle by battle, however, Cage is able to hone his skills together with special forces soldier Rita Vrataski (Blunt). So as Cage and Rita engage in battle after battle, they inexorably move closer to defeating the enemy.
