West Side Story

West Side Story, which won ten Oscars, brings a breath of fresh air from the days when Hollywood still made musicals. Arthur Laurents' hit play is a rather stale interpretation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. This time it's not Verona, but 1950s New York, where young lovers are caught in the crossfire of a gang war. Leonard Bernstein's songs America, Somewhere and Tonight have survived.
