The story centers on Alex Lippi (Romain Duris), who works in a special mission. His specialty is helping people get out of forbidden or hopeless love relationships. He works as a heartbreaker, breaking up couples before their planned weddings or serious commitments.
One of Alex's missions is to help the young and beautiful Juliette (Vanessa Paradis) get out of her upcoming marriage. Juliet's father (Jacques Frantz) has hired Alex for the job, as he believes that her fiancé, Jonathan (Andrew Lincoln), is not right for the couple.
Alex agrees to the mission, but the job turns out to be more challenging than expected. He and his team have to implement many ingenious plans and misadventures to keep the couple apart. However, along the way, Alex begins to feel a romantic attraction to Juliette, which makes it difficult to complete the mission.
Throughout the film, we follow how Alex tries to convince Juliette that Jonathan is not the right man for her. A close friendship develops between them, and they spend more and more time together. However, Alex begins to feel guilty for being part of the manipulation of this artificial relationship.
"Heartbreaker" is a charming romantic comedy that explores the complexity of love and the power of fate.
